WHAT is it....

....about the style of whichever animator laid out Daffy's dance in Duck Soup to Nuts that makes it so easy to turn him into an 80's Nelvana duck and not catch yourself doing it until it's too late?

AARGH!!!!

Whoa, these are really good. I know you don't like them, but whatever it is that you say makes them look Nelvana-y, I don't see it. Your structure is definitely getting a lot more solid.

*Slightly pelican-esque underside of beak

*Evenly thick eyebrows and hairs, placed too close together

*Slightly more ungainly proportions - legs and torso too long and too close to the same length as one another

*Daffy's-left-but-your-right (I think) hand in top image a bit unevenly constructed; palm seems to drift apart sligtly

That's about it.

Some of this might owe a bit to the pencil being slightly dull. I always seem to crack the tips of really sharp ones at a certain point, so I usually keep them just a tiny bit duller than the ideal. For cleanups, anyway - That's where I have to press a bit harder to get the line quality I'm looking for. But of course, I'm describing a vicious circle, because doing this perpetuates the problem that I'm actually trying to solve....

This is why I need to get that scanner hooked up and trawl back through John K's blog to get those cleanup exercises and print them off. Of course, now I'll have no time for that.....I'll just have to wait for however much cleanup technique we'll look at in school. Not a huge amount, I suspect.

*No, wait - I guess I fixed that palm problem. Maybe I'm thinking of the initial underdrawing. Anyway, I still forgot to outline the other side of his neck. Dammit.
